  • Africa is undergoing a remarkable demographic transformation that will significantly impact its economic, social and political landscape in the coming years.

  • In the year 2050, Nigeria is projected to reach a population of 400 million, surpassing the United States to become the world's third most populous country.

  • The world average median age is 30.1 years; meanwhile, in Africa, it is 19. This means that half the population is younger than 19 years old. This is 12 years younger than any other continent and less than half the median age in Europe.

  • By 2040, Africa will be home to the world’s largest workforce, surpassing countries like China and India.

  • The United Nations forecasts indicate that by 2050, Africa's population will nearly hit 2.5 billion. This suggests that over a quarter (more than 25 percent) of the global population will be African.
